ATF and Crop: A Perfect Pairing

The impending opening of Vermont Chef of the Year Tom Bivin’s Crop Bistro & Brewery in Stowe has foodies all over Vermont salivating – those of us here at Above the Fold included. We’ve had the good fortune to have a sneak peek at the process: we’ve helped build their web site and will be assisting them in their social media endeavors. (And maybe sampling the food….from time to time.)

As always, this was a group effort: Alex Smith and Courtney Miller were instrumental in the technical and design aspects of the site, while Barbara Dozetos managed the overall project and Heather Michon assisted with content.

We hope you’ll check out the Crop site, and follow them on Twitter and Facebook. More importantly, we hope you’ll make the trip up to Stowe and sample what promises to be a premier dining experience.

ATF Talks Social Media Makeovers At WBON Fall Conference

Above the Fold owner Barbara Dozetos lead a presentation called “Social Media Makeover: One Size Does Not Fit All” at the Women Business Owners Network (WBON) Annual Fall Conference

“The WBON organizers had heard from their membership that they wanted a useful social media presentation. They didn’t want to do another 101,” says Dozetos. “So I built my presentation with an eye toward showing the attendees that the concepts behind a good social media presence are not rocket science.”

“I wanted them to see that they could take a step back and figure out what’s right and what wrong. I also wanted them to take away a sense of the real power in good social media marketing so they’d be inclined to take it seriously for their businesses.” Read more

ATF Launches Redesigned Site For Gay & Lesbian Fund of Vermont

The Gay and Lesbian Fund of Vermont was designed to showcase the contributions LGBTQA donors make to the broader community. Since its founding in 2005, the Fund has contributed to the arts; hospitals, clinics, and health initiatives; literacy and other educational programs and institutions; efforts to improve our environment; humane societies; youth services; services for the homeless and the aged; and other social services and programs.

Says Barbara Dozetos, owner of Above the Fold and a founding board member of the Gay & Lesbian Fund: “The Fund wanted to optimize their Web presence in preparation for a social media push going into the holiday giving season.” Read more

ATF Redesigns Library Website

Above the Fold is chock-a-block with book lovers, so there was no way were were going to miss an opportunity to redesign a library website.

ATF Joins VT Irene Flood Recovery Fund

Like all Vermonters, we here at Above the Fold are heartbroken by the devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Irene in August.

To assist in the recovery effort, we have volunteered our services to the Vermont Irene Flood Recovery Fund, a program designed to help flood-damaged small businesses get back on their feet and back to work.

The project got off to a flying start: within hours of joining the effort, we learned that the Fund would be featured in a Burlington Free Press story the next morning.

In under 12 hours, Barbara Dozetos established a Web and social media presence, Alexander Smith and Courtney Miller designed a logo and Web site, and Heather Michon created Web content. Some of us didn’t sleep much, but by the time the paper started hitting the doorsteps the next morning, potential donors had Web access to all the critical information about the Fund and its work. Just a few hours later, they could help by credit card.

Social media is becoming a powerful organizing tool in the aftermath of natural disasters; it can be a quick and efficient way to steer donors and volunteers to the places their efforts can be most immediately effective. We’re glad to play our part in helping that happen.

ATF as Media Maven

How can we keep up with the breathtaking changes in the social media world? We can’t. But we can take a sharp look at what is coming around the corner and give ourselves some time to think about how new and promising tools fit into our nonprofit/ small business communications strategy.

Above the Fold owner Barbara Dozetos will be one of Common Good Vermont‘s Media Maven: Social Media Trends for 2011 panel on Thursday, December 9.

Barb will be joined by 2010 VT Democratic field director Jesse Bragg on the panel moderated by CCTV’s executive director, Lauren-Glenn Davitian.

We’d love to see you there, but if you can’t make it, we’ll post a video here once it becomes available.
